Before We Can Help You, We Have to Find You.
Help Us Find You in an Emergency.

We often use street numbering on mailboxes to locate an address.  A clearly posted reflective street number can save precious time during an emergency.  Reflective peel and stick street numbers are very inexpensive and can be purchased at local hardware stores.

Here are some things you can do to help us find you:

  • Post your street number on both sides of your mailbox or mailbox post in 4-inch or larger reflective numbers.  Make sure the numbers can be seen when the mailbox flag is down.  If your mailbox and your home are on opposite sides of the street, consider adding a reflective arrow pointing toward your house.

  • If you don't have a mailbox, consider installing a post at the end of your driveway with your street number on both sides in 4-inch or larger reflective numbers.  The street numbers on the post should be four feet above the ground to avoid snow cover.  Numbers on your house may be too far from the street to see.

  • Make sure the telephone company has your correct street address.

Next time you’re driving in Greenland at night, note how easy it is to see a reflective street number on a mailbox.  Now imagine you’ve called 9-1-1 at night.  Is your house number easy to see?  Do you have reflective street numbers at the end of your driveway?  Help us find you in an emergency.
